Paul H. Mongeon- Woonsocket

Paul H. Mongeon, 69, of Woonsocket passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Fall River, Mass., he was the son of the late Norman Mongeon and Constance (Cote) Mongeon. He graduated from Cumberland High School and received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Industrial Education from Rhode Island College.

He taught Industrial Arts at Nipmuc Regional High School for three years and Norton High School for 30 years. He was the president of the Norton Teachers Association, a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and a member of the National Education Association.

After teaching for 33 years, he ran his own home and small engine maintenance and repair business. An avid motorcyclist, he traveled across the country several times to visit his children. Hobbies included trapping, hunting, and fishing.

He was a long-time member of Saint Agatha’s and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs parishes where he served as Eucharistic minister. A daily communicant, he led the rosary and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Cenacle for many years. He also was a team leader for the Cursillo Movement of the Diocese of Providence.

He is survived by three children, Deborah Mongeon of Jerome, Ariz., Daniel Mongeon of Dedham, Mass., and Elaine Mongeon of Los Angeles, Calif.; spouse of many years and friend, Dr. Joanne Parnell Mongeon of Onset, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Caroline O’Shea; two grandchildren, Brendan and Desmond Mongeon; sister, Janice Sousa; nieces, Janine Cote and Sharon Costa; and great niece, Aimee Lee Joubert, and great nephew, Jeremy Joubert.

His funeral will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 9 a.m. from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Agatha’s Church, 34 Joffre Ave. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Cumberland. Calling hours are Friday from 5-8 p.m.
