Leonard V. Thornton - Smithfield

Leonard V. Thornton, 93, of Dresden, Maine, and Largo, Fla., died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the home of his daughter in Cranston.

He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Emin) Thornton for 67 years. Born in Pelham, Mass., he was a son of the late Victor and Annie Thornton and stepson of Rachel Thornton. He previously had lived in Smithfield for 32 years.

Mr. Thornton was the owner of Emin Chevrolet for 30 years before retiring and moving to Maine. He was a World War II Air Force veteran and a B-24 pilot. He was a member of the Smithfield Sportsman’s and Lion’s Clubs.

Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Maureen D. Jervis and her husband William F. of Cranston and Maxine T. Paquette of Johnston; five grandsons and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Merle Bacon of Hadley, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Shirley Ross and James Powers.

Leonard’s funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Georgiaville. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 p.m.
