Robert J. Gardner and Bella J. Gardner - Lincoln

Robert J. Gardner, 78, and his wife, Bella T. (Begin) Gardner, 75, both died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence, surrounded by their loving family. Mr. and Mrs. Gardner were married 56 years.

Mrs. Gardner was born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Albert and Bella (Bolduc) Begin and had lived in Lincoln for most of her life. She was a saleslady at the former Nissen’s Baking Company in Central Falls and later became a hairdresser for several years before retiring. She was a passionate gardener and beach lover.

Mr. Gardner was born in Pawtucket, a son of the late John and Sally (Cragg) Gardner and had lived in Lincoln for most of his life. He was a baker for the former Nissen’s Baking Company in Central Falls for 30 years until 1982 when he went to work at Larry’s Gulf in Lincoln. He was a car enthusiast.

Together, Mr. and Mrs. Gardner were avid Boston Red Sox fans and watched spring training in Winter Haven and they loved to travel.

They are survived by one daughter, Carol Gardner Latimer and her husband, Stephen of Seattle, Wash.; two sons, John R. Gardner and his wife, Donna of Denver, Colo., and David A. Gardner and his fiancée, Michelle Johnson of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gardner also is survived by five sisters, Clara Bernston of Cumberland, Connie D’Ambra of North Providence, Marie Twohey of Cumberland, Julie Hanley of Pawtucket and Annette Begin of Hudson, Mass.; and one brother, Albert Begin of Central Falls. She was the sister of the late Pauline Braca and Lucille Mendonca. Mr. Gardner was the brother of the late Patricia Boyer.

Their Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated SATURDAY, MARCH 23 at 9:30 A.M. in St. Jude’s Church, 301 Front Street, Lincoln. Burial will be private. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln FRIDAY 4-7 P.M.
