City on alert after man tries luring girl into his car

PAWTUCKET - The principal at Curvin-McCabe Elementary School has informed parents that a student there claimed a man she did not know offered her a ride while walking home from school on Wednesday. The student immediately ran home to report the incident and then told school administrators about it on Thursday.

"Please remind your child to be cautious when walking to and from school," wrote Principal Gina Adams in a letter to parents Thursday. "Remind children that they should not talk to strangers and that they should let an adult know if someone ever approaches them"

Pawtucket Police Maj. Arthur Martins told The Breeze that the suspect in the attempted abduction was driving a four-door burgundy (deep red) car. The car pulled up next to the victim, said Martins, and the operator asked the student if she was cold and wanted a ride.

The suspect is described as an older white male, bald with a mustache and long sideburns that connect to the mustache, according to Martins.

Residents with leads on the suspect should call the Pawtucket Police Department at 401-727-9100.
