Panel to acquire system for town whistleblowers

'I don't know why everyone is so afraid of it,' says Lynch

NORTH PROVIDENCE - A controversial "whistleblower" system, an anonymous forum for residents to report actions of town officials and workers, will soon be up and running, according to town officials.

Members of the North Providence Financial Audit Committee say they're closing in on hiring a company to create the web-based tattling system.

"We're going out to bid and meeting next month with the vendors," said John Lynch, the chairman of the committee and a member of the North Providence Town Council.

The idea for a whistleblower system "is not that complex," said Lynch, and has operated with success in many other communities.

"I don't know why everyone is so afraid of it," he said.
