New consultant team: Fire station cuts or closings are not required

But McKee counters: Report is just 'designed to delay'

UMBERLAND - There's little savings to be had by consolidating the town's four independent fire districts, a brand-new study by a team of consultants is suggesting.

Fire protection in Cumberland is already at a just "bare minimum level," this new report is saying. Saving funds by reducing firefighter ranks below the current 58 men isn't an option, it says.

Moreover, the study vigorously rejects the idea of closing the Cumberland station on Mendon Road. It suggests response time will be longer not only in the Ashton area but all the way down to the folks of Valley Falls.
