Volunteers needed for Smithfield Charter review


MITHFIELD - Maybe you can't fight "City Hall," but here's your chance to have a say in how it operates.

Town Manager Dennis Finlay says it's time to review the municipal charter for potential updating, and he's seeking citizen volunteers to serve on a nine-member commission to look the document over.

By law, the charter must be reviewed every five years. The last such project culminated in 2008, when voters approved a long list of changes and at the same time rejected a proposal to double the length of Town Council terms to four years.
