Finalized contract includes $118K in 2013 raises

2014 salary increase to cost $160K

NORTH SMITHFIELD - The contract with the North Smithfield Teachers Association was approved by a vote of 4 to 1 last week, with School Committee member George Hemond saying he objects to the document on the grounds that co-pays for health insurance are not on par with the private sector, and salary step increases are erratic.

The contract includes an immediate salary increase of $117,875 for the current school year. The three-year agreement will cost the district an additional $161,355 in raises in 2014 and $173,755 in 2015.

Hemond noted that teachers will continue to pay a 15 percent co-share for health insurance in 2013 and will increase their contribution to 17 percent in 2014. In 2015, that figure continues upwards to 18 percent.
