Herbert Taylor Jr. - Lincoln

Herbert Taylor Jr., 95, of Webster Street, Lincoln, R.I., passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Orchard View Manor in East Providence.

He was the husband of the late June M. (Harris) Taylor. Born in Lincoln on July 3, 1917, he was the son of the late Herbert Taylor and Florence (Thomasson) Taylor.

He is survived by his daughter, Carole O’Neill, her husband Sen. Edward O’Neill, and their children, Erin and Jeremiah, all of Lincoln. He is also survived by his daughter, Nancy Johnson, her husband Peter Johnson, and their children Zachary and Rachel, all of Barrington.

Herb served in the Navy during World War II, and worked as superintendent for Arden Engineering Inc. He attended and supported Smithfield Avenue Congregational Church in Pawtucket, Grace Community Chapel in Seekonk, and Lime Rock Baptist Church in Lincoln. He was a member of Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge in Lincoln.

Among his many interests were barbershop quartet singing with his group “The Harbor Knights,” and he was a member of the Ocean State Chorus. Herb was a boating enthusiast and was often found quahogging around Patience Island.

He was known for his wonderful parties for family and friends at his summer home in Gaspee Point, Warwick. Herb was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan along with his wife June. Besides being a loving father, grandfather, and a good friend, Herb was known as the man who could fix anything.

Calling hours are on Monday, April 15 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Merrick Williams Funeral Home at 530 Smithfield Avenue, Pawtucket, R.I., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Johnston, RI.
