Nesselbush celebrates big win for same-sex marriage


AWTUCKET - Donna Nesselbush always knew "in my heart" that same-sex marriage would one day be legalized in Rhode Island, but says she never saw "a clear path" to getting it done.

It wasn't until her Senate Judiciary Committee passed her revised bill, and narrowly rejected putting the matter up for a statewide referendum, that she knew that the gay marriage bill had a chance.

Nesselbush, the chief judge of Pawtucket Municipal Court and an attorney who represents Senate District 15 in Pawtucket and North Providence, described the Senate's approval of same-sex marriage last week as "huge" and "historic."
