Officials say they'll consider putting grass back on ballfields

Both sides agree that safety for the players is paramount

PAWTUCKET - As April turns into May, the clay at the newly stripped-down Ruthowski Field is getting packed down, say a group of concerned coaches and parents, causing what they say is an increasingly dangerous situation for players.

Representatives from the Darlington American Little League met with city officials on Monday to share their growing concern for the safety of children after workers removed grass from the infield in March.

City officials said they understand the concerns and are open to the idea of putting the grass back next year.
