B.V. Prep shines in new report

CUMBERLAND – A new report issued Wednesday by the RI-CAN education advocacy group finds lots to love about the regional charter schools under the umbrella of the Rhode Island Mayoral Academies.

Both the middle and elementary schools of Blackstone Valley Prep show up on the top 10 lists for performance by minority and low-income students, with the middle school number 1 in the state in performance by blacks, Latinos, English language learners and low incomes. See www.ri-can.org/sites/ri-can.org/files/report_cards/2013-Top-10s.pdf .

Using the fall 2012 testing year of the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) exams, the online database assigns A-F grades in five categories of student achievement for all Rhode Island’s public schools and school districts. The full report is at www.ri-can.org/report-cards .
