A switch from open space to house lots considered on Curran Road

C

UMBERLAND - The Cumberland Land Trust opposes it, but Planning Board members are recommending the rezoning of 2.4 acres of land at 121 Curran Road from open space to residential to allow construction of two new houses next to the existing 200-year-old farm house.

The planners' review, the first step in a process that next involves the Town Council, yielded a unanimous decision but wasn't without some concerns.

It's not often that land designated for open space is targeted for building, although another piece, the Currier-Chace Play Lot on Broad Street, is now for sale by the town. (See related story, page xx.)

The Curran Road acres were designated open space as long ago as 1950, according to Town Hall records.
