Failed Effins attracts new, experienced owners

MITHFIELD - The part owners of two restaurant-pubs in Providence and another in Pembroke, Mass., have agreed to buy the shuttered Effin's Last Resort on Farnum Pike for $800,000.

A Superior Court hearing will be held May 10 to approve the purchase, which would take the expansive night spot, with a capacity for 600 people, out of receivership and possibly have it back in business by Memorial Day.

The prospective owners of the rambling, 6,500-square-foot facility, on 11 acres, are John P. Ferreira and Jackson D. Gateman, long-time businessmen in Massachusetts who own interests in Whiskey Republic and Lola's Tequila Bar and Cantina, both on South Water Street in Providence; and Turner's Yard Restaurant and Pub in Pembroke, Mass.
