Injured cat raises question of possible leg trap

SMITHFIELD - A grievously injured feral cat, one of several that had befriended residents of a local nursing home, has lost one of its back legs - but not its talent for winning affection.

The black-and-white waif, which a veterinarian says may have encountered a steel-jawed leg trap, is being adopted by a registered nurse at the Hebert Health Center on Log Road, where it was among a band of homeless cats accustomed to enjoying handouts from patients.
