Free summer gardening series at Slater Park

PAWTUCKET - Daggett Farm in Slater Park will host its 4th annual "Summer Gardening Series" presented by URI master gardeners on Saturday mornings from May 18 through June 8. All programs start at 10 a.m., and are held rain or shine. Admission is free.

Here's the schedule:

* Veggies & Herbs, May 18. Learn about soil preparation, fertilizing and watering, and plant selection. Plants available for sale, and soil testing, too.

* Gardening with Perennials, May 25. Learn about selecting the right varieties for your particular garden space, how to combine for a pleasing effect, and preparing and maintaining your garden beds so that your plants will thrive.

* Filling in with Annuals, June 1. Learn how to keep your garden full of colorful blooms all summer long by the strategic placing of annuals, in containers as well as in your garden beds.

* Create a Dish Garden, June 8. Learn how to select houseplants and how to group them to create a dish garden for enjoying inside your home. Plants will be available for sale so you can create your own.
