Marijuana dispensary never envisioned in town's zoning statutes

SMITHFIELD - Taking the term "grass roots democracy" to a new high, the owners of a medical marijuana consulting business at 2 Esmond St. will appear before the Town Council May 21, seeking to re-open after the municipal zoning office shut them down April 23.

The operation, which has drawn concern from Police Chief Richard St. Sauveur Jr., provides advice, and free marijuana, to state-certified medicinal users.
