Charles T. O’Rourke - Woonsocket

Charles T. O’Rourke, 69, of Gaskill Street, died May 17, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Charlie was the husband of Barbara H. (McMahon) O’Rourke for 49 years. Her kindness and beauty lived within his heart. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late George J. and Laura B. (Jalette) O’Rourke of Woonsocket and Wilmington, N.C.

Charlie graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, N.C., and attended Wilmington College before returning to Woonsocket. He also attended Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, Mass. He was a graduate of the Community College of Rhode Island with an Associate Degree in Fire Science.

Charlie was a firefighter for the city of Woonsocket for 25 years with the rank of Lieutenant when he retired due to illness. Before being a firefighter, he worked for National Finance Corporation of Pawtucket, R.I., where he managed the offices in Pascoag and Coventry, R.I.

Charlie was a member of several local societies, including The Elks Lodge 850, Cercle Laurier, and the Italian Workingman’s Club.

He is survived by his loving wife Barbara H. and five children: three daughters, Karen L. Medeiros and her husband Joseph of Exeter, R.I., Colleen G. Marsella and her husband Michael of Sterling, Conn., and Erin E. Magoon and her husband James of Sandown, N.H.; two sons, George J. O’Rourke and his wife Anita of Danielson, Conn., and Sean T. O’Rourke and his fiancée Pippa Jack of Barrington, R.I.; his nine grandchildren, Jared, Dylan, Kalena, Keara, Sophia, Kelsea, Ava, Ella and Matilda; two brothers, Richard G. and his wife Barbara of Wilmington, N.C. and Kenneth J. and his wife Shelvie of Wilmington, N.C.; one sister, Gail S. O’Rourke of Cumberland, R.I; and nephews, nieces and many cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 10 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 190 North Main St., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone, Mass. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 28, from 5- 7 p.m. in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woonsocket Firefighter’s Relief Association, 2 Cumberland Hill Road, Woonsocket, RI 02895.
