Kathryne M. O’Donnell - Narragansett

Kathryne M. (Brady) O’Donnell, 85, of Narragansett, formerly of Providence, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family Thursday, May 23 after a long illness. She was the devoted wife of Francis P. O’Donnell Sr., to whom she was married for 58 years.

Born in New Brunswick, N.J., Kathryne was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ellen Brady. After the death of her mother shortly after her birth, Kathryne was raised by her cherished aunt, the late Julia A. Walsh. She was the sister of the late Joseph E. Brady and the late M. Dorothea Cotter.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her six children, to whom she devoted her life: Frank O’Donnell and his wife Karen (DeAngelis) of North Providence, Maureen Pinksaw and her husband John of Middletown, James K. O’Donnell, Esq. and his wife Lucille (Hardiman) of North Kingstown, State Police Col. Steven G. O’Donnell and his wife Holly (Robert) of Smithfield, Thomas M. O’Donnell and his wife Katherine (Smith) of Coventry and Kathleen O’Donnell White and her husband William of South Kingstown. She was the proud “grandma” to 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Raised in Providence, Kathryne was a 1944 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School and a 1948 graduate of the Rhode Island College of Education where she earned a teaching degree. Kathryne taught first grade in the Warwick Public Schools before she married in 1955.

A lifelong teacher, Kathryne had a passion for helping others and always saw the best in everyone, no matter what. She was a faithful, passionate Catholic and communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and St. Veronica’s/St. Thomas More churches.

Relatives and friends are invited to a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, May 29, at 10 a.m. in St. Veronica’s Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett. A Graveside burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 28 from 4-8 p.m. in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.
