Florence A. Medeiros - Smithfield

Florence A. Medeiros, LPN, 72, of Log Road passed away Monday, May 27 surrounded by her family at Rhode Island Hospital.

Born in Providence, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Florence (Souza) DeGeorge. She lived in Johnston and North Providence before moving to Smithfield.

Mrs. Medeiros was a nurse at the former Lying-In Hospital and also worked for nine years at the Morgan Health Center until retirement.

She was a lifetime member of the Kelly-Gazzarro VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former Girl Scout leader and was also a writer for The Observer and Your Smithfield Magazine. She enjoyed bowling, photography, and her family.

She is survived by her sons, Carl Medeiros Jr. of Pawtucket, Anthony Medeiros of Laurel, Md., and Frederick Medeiros of West Greenwich; her grandchildren, whom she raised, Danielle Gagnon of Smithfield, Desiree Gagnon of Norwood, Mass., and Robert Gagnon of Cranston. She was the mother of late Christine Ann Gagnon. She also leaves seven additional grandchildren, Jessica, Toni, Carl III, Anthony Jr., Ryan, Freddy Jr. and Vinny; and five great-grandchildren, Nakyah, Desmon, Kyla, Nevaeh and Andre. She was the sister of Fred DeGeorge of West Greenwich, Kathy Compagnone of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Anthony DeGeorge of Cranston.

Her funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, R.I., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Philip Church, 633 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Visitation is Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
