UPDATE: Town seeks public's help in finding No. Smithfield Town Hall thieves

NORTH SMITHFIELD – Police are seeking the public's help in finding the individuals responsible for a series of robberies in Slatersville Tuesday night, including a break-in to one important municipal building: Town Hall.

Entering through a side window, the thieves ransacked and robbed the historic Main Street building Tuesday night, and the crime is reportedly just one of several robberies that took place in North Smithfield.

Residents in the area of Main Street, Railroad Street and Church Street between 5:15 p.m Tuesday evening and 7 a.m. Wednesday morning have been asked to contact the police if they noticed anything unusual. The number for the North Smithfield Police Department is 762-1212.

According to Town Administrator Paulette Hamilton, the crime was discovered when municipal employees arrived at work Wednesday morning. Town Hall employees, kept outside of the building during the police investigation, were allowed to return to work around 10 a.m.

“There were several break-ins in the area,” said Hamilton. “This was just one of them.”

The thieves reportedly made off with several computers and other valuables, although the full extent of the robbery is not yet clear.

The North Smithfield Police are reportedly working with us the victims to conduct their investigation.
