Picard to head Bernon Heights Elementary, Boss named principal of middle school

WOONSOCKET - The Woonsocket Education Department filled several vacancies last week, moving around a few of its more established educational leaders to cover gaps left by others who have moved on to the district's central office.

Middle School Assistant Principal Robert Picard will lead Bernon Heights Elementary, filling a vacancy created when former principal George Nasuti took a position heading Athletics, Health and Wellness in the central office. Picard has worked for the department since 1995, starting out as a social studies teacher.

Middle School Assistant Principal Steven Boss, meanwhile, will now serve as principal at that school, assuming a spot left when principal Patrick McGee went to the central office as the director of Curriculum and Assessment. Boss began his career in Woonsocket education in 1999, when he took a job as a math teacher.

Christopher A. Lopardo, assistant principal of Esek Hopkins Middle School in Providence, will assume the role of assistant principal at Woonsocket Middle School.

The changes were recommended by Supt. Giovanna Donoyan and approved by the Woonsocket School Committee at a meeting June 5.
