Fun and fireworks at Notte Park tonight

NORTH PROVIDENCE - The weather looks like it will be good enough for the Independence Day Festivities at Governor Notte Park off Douglas Avenue on Wednesday, July 3. Don't miss the main event fireworks display, set to begin around 9 p.m.

Entertainment, featuring the band Reminisce, will run from 6 to 9:30 p.m., while a food court will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. The rain date is Friday, July 5.

Six vendors have been secured to sell various items such as shaved ice, gelato, hotdogs, hamburgers, sausage and peppers, Del's Lemonade, doughboys, clamcakes and chowder.

The July 3 event will also be the stage for the big unveiling of the town's newly improved Camp Meehan property, located directly next to Notte Park and its beach, which was reopened Monday after officials heard the surprising news that bacteria levels there had dropped dramatically.

The Pezzelli family and Golden Crest Nursing Centre are sponsoring the event's music. A $1,000 donation from Twin River will also help defray the cost of a fireworks display that costs about $9,000.
