The Last Resort opens for business

SMITHFIELD - The Last Resort, which has dropped "Effin's" from its name, is now open for business at 325 Farnum Pike.

The restaurant and bar with an Olympic-sized swimming pool, outdoor entertainment and volleyball courts opened its doors on June 28 in time for the Fourth of July weekend.

Owner David DiDonato, a Smithfield resident who bought the space in May, said The Last Resort will continue to offer live entertainment on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, but with more of a variety than guests will remember from Effin's.

Line-ups will include artists playing rock n' roll, jazz, blues and country - "just a little bit of everything," DiDonato said.

The entire space has been renovated, he said, and "totally redone."

Nikolas Pizza North, a Newport business with 30 years of experience, leases the kitchen space and will serve up pizza and more to patrons.

The swimming pool, which carries a $10 cover charge, will be restricted to guests 21 and older, DiDonato said, adding that a lifeguard will be on duty.

There is also a tiki bar outside, which is one of the restaurant's three full bars. The other two are inside - one in the main room, and another in the quieter billiards room.

"There's something for everybody to do," DiDonato said. "It's a pretty unique place."

The Last Resort is open every day from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. For more information, call 401-349-3500 or find "The Last Resort - Formerly Effins" on Facebook. A website is under construction.
