Three killed in Lincoln wrong-way crash

LINCOLN – A North Smithfield man and a couple from Worcester died early Sunday morning, July 22, after a collision caused by a driver headed the wrong way on Route 146.

Aldo Almanzar, 38, of North Smithfield was traveling south in the northbound lane on the highway around 3 a.m. Sunday when he struck a Honda Accord operated by Andrew Hilow, 29, of Worcester nearly head-on. Almanzar, who officers say was unlicensed and not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passengers in the Honda, Alexis Correa, 21, and Isabel Vasquez, 21, both of Worcester, were taken to Rhode Island Hospital and later pronounced dead. Driver Hilow suffered serious injuries but was in stable condition.

Correa and Vasquez were reportedly in a relationship and out celebrating Vasquez's birthday. The Worcester woman was mother to a 19-month-old girl and would have turned 22 on Monday.

Police are still investigating if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
