Pawtucket police get their man for trio of robberies

PAWTUCKET - Police have identified and arrested Eris Bernard Fabre Martinez, a 24-year-old resident of 205 Harrison St., as the suspect in a trio of robberies.

On July 27, at approximately 9 p.m., the Getty gas station located at 1197 Newport Ave. was robbed, according to a news release. The suspect entered the establishment and displayed a portion of a firearm that was tucked into his waistband. The clerk provided the suspect with cash and the suspect fled the area. There were no reported injuries.

On Thursday, Aug. 2, at approximately 9 p.m., officers were dispatched to a Shell station at 1414 Newport Ave. for an attempted robbery. A clerk indicated that a suspect entered and demanded cash before fleeing the store. The suspect then entered the passenger side of a red convertible with a white top before taking off.

Police were notified about 30 minutes later of another armed robbery at the Newport Getty. The same suspect entered the store and showed the handle of a firearm that was tucked into his waistband. The clerk gave the suspect an undetermined amount of cash and the suspect fled.

Last Friday, Aug. 3, a police captain observed a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle parked at an address on Benjamin Street. An individual matching the description of the robbery suspect, Martinez, was located at the residence. Martinez had an active warrant issued by District Court. He was placed into custody.

After an investigation investigators were able to retrieve evidence from the vehicle and the home to establish probable cause to charge Martinez with three counts of first-degree robbery related to the crimes that occurred on July 27 and Aug. 1.

Martinez was friends with a family member from the Benjamin St. address. The residents of the home were cooperative with police and do not appear to have any knowledge of the criminal activity. The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests/charges may result in the future.
Martinez appeared before a bail commissioner last Saturday. He was ordered held without bail.
