Dorothy M. Dark - Cumberland

Dorothy M. Dark of Holiday, Fla., formerly of Cumberland, R.I., passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Monday, July 29, 2013, at Trinity Health Center in Port Richey, Fla.

She was the wife of the late Irving A. Dark. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Doris (Large) Burt. She resided most of her life in Cumberland but spent the last seven years in Florida.

Dottie was a faithful Christian, loving wife, mother and grandmother, and brought joy to many who knew her. She worked for many years as a secretary for Kitchens by Douglas and Watt Distribution before retiring in the early 1990s to enjoy her summer cottage in Dennis Port, Mass., with her husband Irving.

Dotty was an enthusiastic servant to her churches: Cumberland Community Methodist Church and Holiday Free Methodist Church in Florida. Her church families were a great source of support where she enjoyed playing the piano, teaching Sunday school, and participating in women's fellowship and Bible study.

Dotty’s greatest joy came from her family. How thrilled she was to attend the wedding of her granddaughter Brittany in Hawaii this past April. She traveled to Indiana in June to celebrate the high school graduation of her grandson Cameron, and meet her great-granddaughter, Aubriana.

She is survived by her four children, Douglas Dark of Fort Wayne, Ind., Margie Medberry of Pawtucket R.I., Jennifer Shiraishi of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Irving Dark of Lincoln, R.I., and their spouses, Christine, Joe, Craig and Amy. She also leaves nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Cumberland Community Methodist Church, 451 Broad Street, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Arnold Mills Cemetery, Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holiday Free Methodist Church, 5330 Whipporwill Dr., Holiday, FL 34690 or to Cumberland Community Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of J J Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland, R.I.
