Pawtucket man arrested for abusing 1-year-old

PAWTUCKET - A city man, Hans Joachim, has been charged with second degree child child abuse after allegedly injuring a 1-year-old boy.

On Aug. 22, at approximately 9 p.m., officers from the the Pawtucket Police Department were notified of a possible child abuse incident. Officers were directed to 152 Harrison St. after claims that a 1-year-old boy there might have been abused. Officers found the boy, who had bruises, cuts and abrasions that were in the process of healing, and swelling to an ankle and his head area. The boy was transported to Memorial Hospital for evaluation and was later released to a family member. The injuries sustained by the boy did not appear to be permanent, according to police.

Representatives from the Department of Children, Youth and Families were also contacted and they assisted with the investigation, which revealed that the boy was abused by Joachim, 27, Joachim was arrested after the completion of the initial investigation, according to a news release. Joachim was held at the Pawtucket Police Department and brought before District Court on Aug. 23, where he was charged with child abuse. He was released on personal recognizance after arraignment.
