High school women invited to enter Bill of Rights essay contest

CUMBERLAND - State Rep. Karen MacBeth is inviting young women of the area to apply for the 16th annual Bill of Right Essay Scholarship Contest offered by the National Foundation for Women Legislators and the National Rifle Association.

The winner, who will win an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., must be sponsored by a woman state legislator, and MacBeth is offering to be the sponsor for any interested applicant.

To enter, high school juniors or seniors should write an essay on either the issue of privacy versus the government's right to know, or sexual assaults against women in the military.

Six young women will receive an award, a $3,000 scholarship, and an all-expense-paid trip to NFWL's 2013 annual conference at Washington, D.C.'s Ritz-Carlton Nov. 20-22.

The deadline for entry is Sept. 15. See the website at www.womenlegislators.org/events/scholarship-program.php for complete essay questions and other details.
