North Providence Jets Varsity downs North End

NORTH PROVIDENCE - The North Providence Jets Rhode Island Pre-Teen Football League Varsity team won for the second time in as many games on Sunday, topping the tough North End 49ers, 16-6 at Conley Stadium.

The other Jets teams lost.

Joey Alves hit pay dirt from a short distance in the first quarter to give his team a 6-0 lead, and Lucas Martin plunged in for the two-point PAT to give North Providence an 8-0 lead. A bad snap on a punt attempt by North End resulted in a safety and a 10-0 score.

In the second half, David Tacelli's three-yard run matched the North End's only score of the game. Christian Diaz was the leading defensive player for the Jets.

In the previous week, the Varsity team edged a tough Burrillville squad, 14-6.

It was a scoreless game at half, but the Jets got a pair of touchdown runs in the second half from Curtlyn Bontemp and Lucas Martin and a two-point conversion from Tacelli to make the difference.

The Jets Pee Wee team dropped a 16-6 decision to North End on Sunday.

The only Jets score came on a long run by Isaiah Emmanuel. Emmanuel Ireland was outstanding on defense, and Cameron Brito recorded a sack and had a pair of fumble recoveries.

The week prior, the Jets Pee Wees were swamped, 38-0, by Burrillville.

The Jayvee squad dropped a 24-14 decision to North End, but made a strong comeback after trailing 24-0 at half. Tyler Muccio and Victor Gil had the Jets touchdowns.

The previous week against Burrillville, the Jets rolled, 42-14, behind three touchdowns by Luciano Zenteno and a pair by Israel Emmanuel.

The Jets are scheduled to play their first home games of the season Sunday against Tri-Town at the high school field.
