Memorial presents more than 1,000 items to Agnes Little School

PAWTUCKET - Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island's staff presented more than 1,000 school items in 12 boxes to the Agnes Little Elementary School on Aug. 23. Members of the school's PTO and students accepted the gifts.

Employees from the Memorial Pathology Department spearheaded a school supply drive to benefit children in the local community. The effort ran for two weeks at Memorial Hospital. Items donated included tissues, hand sanitizers, wipes, pocket folders, glue sticks, calculators, pens, pencils, colored copy paper, crayons, markers, dry erase markers, small white boards and more.

"The staff at Little was amazed at the amount of school supplies that were donated by Memorial Hospital," said Raymond Dalton, the school's principal. "In the afternoon of the day the supplies were received, a family registering two students at the school spoke to me about how they had just moved to the area from out of state and that they were financially having a difficult time purchasing school supplies for the children."

Staff members were able to fill two backpacks with items received from the hospital, said Dalton.

"I am sure that will help the children have a great start to their school year," he said.
