PAWTUCKET - More than 300 submissions have been received for the 15th Pawtucket Photo Contest and are on display for viewing in the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center Gallery at 175 Main St. Twelve winning photos will be selected by local professional photographers, with one photo being chosen by Mayor Donald Grebien for the cover of the 2014 Pawtucket calendar.

Winners will be announced by Grebien this Sunday, Sept. 29, during a 4 p.m. public reception at the visitor center.

This year's contest theme was "A Piece of Pawtucket." The Blackstone Valley Visitor Center is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All photos will be on display throughout September.

The Mayor's Choice Award will receive a $100 cash prize, first place will receive a $75 cash prize, and second place will receive a $50 cash prize, with remaining winners receiving gift certificates.

All winning photos will be used in Pawtucket's 2014 calendar.

Students from five of the city's elementary schools' 5th- and 6th- grade classrooms participated in a photo workshop in May and entered their work in the contest.

Participating schools were Cunningham, Curtis, Fallon, Potter-Burns and Winters.
