Wiley Center will hold fourth Quiz Bowl this Friday

PAWTUCKET - Representatives for the George Wiley Center, a city-based organization that seeks social and economic justice for low-income Rhode Islanders, are inviting the public for a night of "serious fun and games."

The fourth annual "Quiz Bowl" fundraiser will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at McCoy Stadium. Organizers say they are excited to announce that the emcee for the evening will be Sara Hogan, former sports reporter and anchor for WPRI 12.

The Quiz Bowl is an evening of team trivia, with teams of as many as eight people competing for the Wiley Center's coveted "Brightest Bulb" Award. All ages are welcome, and diversity is encouraged for a greater chance of taking home the trophy.

The competition "is sure to be as fierce as it is fun," say organizers.

There will be nine rounds of six questions each, with "extra innings" in case of a tie. Questions will be drawn from categories of random knowledge. Smartphones and other technology will not be allowed.

A suggested donation of $50 per person includes dinner at the break and snacks all night. A cash bar will be available throughout the evening.

The Wiley Center has many sponsors to thank, including MetLife, Collette Vacations, UFCW Local 328, Toray Plastics, Motley Rice, Cavanagh Company, Country Kitchen Seekonk, and the Rhode Island Office of Mental Health Advocate. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and raffle donations are appreciated.
