North Smithfield police arrest two suspects in Milford stabbing

NORTH SMITHFIELD – A man wanted in Milford for attempted murder was found coming out of the woods behind the Dowling Village Walmart and taken into custody.

John McKissick, 28, of 14 Meadow Road, Uxbridge was arrested by the North Smithfield Police with help from the Rhode Island State Police. McKissick was wanted by the Milford, Mass. Police Department for attempted murder and other felony charges related to a stabbing that occurred Sept. 29.

According to a release from the North Smithfield Police Department, patrol officers found McKissick’s vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart and believed that he was camping out in the woods abutting the Walmart property. Detectives and officers from NSPD and RISP reportedly had Mckissick’s vehicle under surveillance, and he was taken into custody without incident when he was seen exiting the wood line and approaching his vehicle.

McKissick was held by North Smithfield Police on a fugitive from justice complaint and was presented before a Kent County Dictrict Court judge on Sept. 1. The suspect was held without bail and remanded to the ACI to await extradition to the state of Massachusetts.

Phillip Ware, 27, of was also taken into custody for alleged involvement in the stabbing, although he has not being charged by Milford Police. Ware was charged with possession of narcotics and on an outstanding family court warrant.

The victim, whose name has not been released, suffered multiple stab wounds to the left side of his chest and left shoulder according to police.
