North Stars Squirt Majors win twice

WOONSOCKET - The Woonsocket North Stars Tire Doctor Selects Squirt Majors team rolled to two more wins during the weekend.

The local team crushed the New England Junior Falcons, 11-0, and topped the Bay State Breakers, 6-3.

The North Stars traveled west to Enfield, Conn., to face the Junior Falcons, and made it worth the trip. Matthew Walsh started the scoring for the North Stars, when he took Shea Bessette's pass and put it top shelf.

Ryan Gagnon proceeded to score three in a row to earn the hat trick and give the North Stars a 4-0 lead in the first period. Gabe Kouki and Cee-Jay Laquerre provided assists to Gagnon's goals.

Chris Bolton also earned a hat trick during the game, scoring two consecutive goals in the first three minutes of the second period, assisted by Walsh.

Kouki, Walsh and Laquerre would each add additional goals to put the North Stars up 9-0 after two periods. Aidan Forrest and Bolton each added a goal in the third period to end the game with 11-0. Aleksander Reilly was flawless in net, earning the shutout.

On Sunday, the North Stars hosted a competitive Bay State Breakers team, and came away with a well earned 6-3 victory. The North Stars got on the scoreboard first at the 7:43 mark, when Walsh brought the puck down to the Breakers net, and fed the puck to Bolton who scored. The North Stars took a 2-0 lead six minutes later when Shea Bessette scored off Kouki's pass.

The Breakers scored their first goal at the 9:51 mark, but the North Stars took a 3-1 lead with 1:10 left in the second period, when Walsh scored off a perfectly executed set of passes from Laquerre and Jack Byrne.

The Breakers remained tenacious, scoring two goals in the last 30 seconds of the period to put the game at a 3-3 tie. The third period was all North Stars. Ethan Larkin scored what would be the game winner when he fired the puck right over the goalie's shoulder. Laquerre and Walsh each added insurance goals with two minutes left in the game, and the North Stars finished the weekend with the 6-3 win.

The North Stars defense was aggressive, led by Kevin Degnan, Chris Crane, Shea Godin and Forrest.
