'Winter Wonderland' moves to Monastery, features new decorate-a-tree offer

CUMBERLAND - With this year's town-sponsored Winter Wonderland moving to the Monastery Grounds from Diamond Hill Park, organizers at the Parks & Recreation Department are excited to be offering Christmas tree sponsorships for the first time.

"We will start taking reservations for trees now, through Dec. 1," said Arlene Nunn of the Parks & Recreation office.

For a $30, sponsors will be provided a 6-to-7-foot-tall Christmas tree, stand, and identifying sign to be placed in front of the tree. Sponsoring individuals, families or groups are invited to decorate the tree in a favorite color, make it a memorial to a departed family member, or give it its own special theme.

"Our initial goal is to have 50 trees sponsored and place them around the roadway and gazebo to create a beautiful sight," said Nunn.

The trees will be lit on Dec. 15 during the Winter Wonderland family event, and lighted every night through Dec. 22.

Tree sponsorship requests will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis through Dec. 1.

If you would like to reserve a tree, call Parks and Recreation at 401-334-9996 for information and a reservation form.
