Man caught after allegedly strangling girlfriend, taking children

PAWTUCKET – A city man, Barrolle Z. Shar, 32, was arrested after allegedly attacking his girlfriend and taking their children.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, at approximately 8 a.m., officers from the Pawtucket Police Department were dispatched to 442 Mineral Spring Ave. in response to a call about domestic violence. When officers arrived they found a female victim who stated that she had been attacked and choked by her boyfriend. She told police that her boyfriend fled the scene with their two children, ages 3 and 2. She stated that her boyfriend is extremely violent and she feared for the safety of the children.

Pawtucket detectives contacted the Rhode Island State Police to issue an Amber Alert seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect’s vehicle. Detectives learned that the suspect may be at an address in Providence. State Police located Shar’s vehicle near the Providence address, before the Amber Alert was issued. The suspect was arrested by the State Police and the children were found unharmed.

Shar will be held at the Pawtucket Police Department and will be arraigned before a bail commissioner. He will be charged with several criminal violations, including assault with intent to murder, domestic assault by strangulation, and perhaps additional charges.
