'Divas' show coming to Salvatore Mancini Center

NORTH PROVIDENCE - The Salvatore Mancini Resource and Activity Center announces the following events.

The Eddie Edwards Legendary Divas show is set for Friday, Nov. 8, 8 p.m., at Rhode Island College. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at the RIC box office, Monday-Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Call 401-456-8144 or order online at www.smrac.com/divas . Proceeds will benefit the center. The event is sponsored by Nardolillo Funeral Home and Golden Crest Nursing Centre.

A new evening Hi-Lo-Jack League will meet for 10 weeks at the VFW Hall, Fruit Hill Avenue, at 6 p.m. Players and spares are needed.

Hearing health consultations will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Appointments are not required.

The program, Advance Treatments in Wound Care, will be presented by Dr. Joseph Domenico on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 10:30 a.m. Learn about the most up to date approaches to wound healing and the latest advances in wound care.

Medicare open enrollment is being held now through Dec. 15. For more information, call social worker Cheryl Sadler at 401-231-0742, ext. 104.

For those who are enrolled in a Blue Chip for Medicare Plan, or are interested in learning more about them, Susan Saccoccia-Olson, the Medicare education coordinator from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, will be at the center on Monday, Oct. 28, at 10:30 a.m., to review their plan options for 2014. There will be time for questions following the presentation. The presentation does not include information on retirement benefits provided to individuals from a former employer.

The AARP Senior Driver Safety Course will be offered on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Members must present their AARP National Membership Card at time of registration. Class size is limited. Pre-register with receptionist by calling 401-231-0742.

Nutritionist Peggy O'Neill will present the program, Healthy Eating for a Healthier Heart, on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 10:30 a.m.

A free legal clinic will be provided by the Rhode Island Bar Association on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. The clinic will consist of eight individual 15-minute appointments in which attorney Frank Manni will answer legal questions or concerns regarding to elder law, wills and probate, durable power of attorney, guardianship, Medicare, health care and acute and long-term care facility issues.
