Gallagher girls finish undefeated

SMITHFIELD - For the first time in school history, the Gallagher Middle School girls soccer team completed an undefeated season and took first place in the Central Division.

Culminating the regular season was a 6-0 win last week over Exeter/West Greenwich, giving the Gallagher girls an 11-0-1 record for the regular season.

The team was awarded a top seed in the state playoffs, which begin this week.

In the final win, two players shared scoring highlights.

Tyler Cobain and Riley Hart scored three goals apiece, and each assisted on the other's goals. Grace Beaudry also earned an assist.

"It was a great way for these girls, especially the 8th-graders, to finish the season with their last regular season home game," said coach Kate McCurdy. "I was afraid we might let down after we got a couple of quick scores, but we didn't. If we continue to play like this, we should be able to go deep in the playoffs."

Gallagher was scheduled to play Chariho, the fourth-place team from the South Division, at home.

In their last game of the regular season, the Gallagher boys nipped Exeter/West Greenwich, 3-2 and finished the regular campaign at 8-3-1, good for third place in the Central Division, one point behind Feinstein, which finished at 8-2-2.
