North Star Squirts sweep

WOONSOCKET - The Woonsocket North Stars Selects Squirt Major team swept the South Shore Kings 12-4 and 7-2 during EMHL weekend action.

On Saturday the North Stars traveled to Hetland Arena as visitors and put the decision away early with five first-period goals, with Cee Jay Laquerre scoring four of his five goals and Gabe Kouki scoring the fifth and assisting on two of Laquerre's.

Chris Bolton added a sixth North Star goal in the second period, before the Kings scored two quick goals with four minutes left in the second period. Shea Bessette had an unassisted goal and Kouki added another goal, assisted by Ryan Slaney and Laquerre, to give the North Stars an 8-2 lead at the end of two periods.

The Kings would try to narrow the margin in the third period adding two more goals, but the North Stars would add four more goals, from Jack Byrne, Aidan Forrest, Bolton and Laquerre, with assists earned by Kevin Degnan, Ethan Larkin, Bessette and Byrne.

On Sunday, the Kings visited the North Stars at Mount St. Charles Arena, and tried to keep the game close in the first period, but after that it was all North Stars. Bolton got the North Stars on the board three minutes into the game, assisted by Matthew Walsh, but the Kings quickly tied the game 90 seconds later.

Larkin gave the North Stars the lead 30 seconds after that, assisted by Byrne, but with 13 seconds left in the period, the Kings tied the game at 2-2. Laquerre scored what would be the game-winning goal on a spectacular breakaway minutes in the second period, and with three minutes to go in the second, Bessette scored, assisted by Slaney and Forrest.

Laquerre added the fifth North Star goal in the third period at 5:24, with Slaney scoring 90 seconds later, assisted by Shea Godin and Laquerre.

With time running out, Kouki scored the seventh North Star goal, from perfectly executed passes by Ryan Gagnon and Slaney.

The North Stars outshot the Kings 48-36, with Aleksander Reilly making 34 saves.
