Scituate boys soccer run ends

SCITUATE - The Scituate High School boys soccer team Division III state playoff run came to an end last week when the Spartans dropped a tough 2-1 decision to Prout School.

Scituate, which lost, 4-1 to Prout during the regular season, played the Providence school on even terms during the first half, which ended 0-0.

In the second half, John Sherman found the back of the net for the Spartans, but that was offset by Prout scores from Andrew Mace and Jake Covell as Prout moved to the finals to play West Warwick.

During the season, the Spartans compiled a 7-5-3 record, but in the playoffs, ousted Tiverton, 3-2, and then stunned number two seeded North Smithfield, 2-1, to get to the semifinals.
