Free CERT training offered in North Smithfield

NORTH SMITHFIELD - The North Smithfield Emergency Management Agency will sponsor an eight-week, free Community Emergency Response Team training class for area residents.

The class will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and run every Tuesday through Feb. 19 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. There will be no class held Christmas and New Year's weeks. Classes will be at EMA office at the North Smithfield Police Station, 575 Smithfield Road.

The class will include training on the psychology of disaster trauma, light search and rescue, emergency preparedness, fire safety, basic first aid, radio communication and operation and participation in a CERT team. All training materials are provided at no cost to participants. Graduates of the program will receive a CERT disaster kit and identification card.
