Cumberland's Mrs. Cruz dies

CUMBERLAND - Cumberland resident Felicida Cruz, who celebrated her 100th birthday on Nov. 22, died on Friday, Dec. 13.

Mrs. Cruz, wife of the late Belmiro (Bill) Cruz, is survived by three children - David Cruz of Lincoln, and Juliet Lucena and Bill Cruz of Cumberland - as well as six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

After celebrating her birthday surrounded by family last month, Mrs. Cruz was the subject of an article in The Breeze, which was published last Thursday, Dec. 12.

In it, her children talked about how Mrs. Cruz, who had recently developed slight dementia, came to Providence from Argentina as a 7-year-old Felicida Fonseca before getting married and raising a family in Valley Falls.

A founding member of the Lusitana Club's Ladies Auxiliary, Mrs. Cruz was also once in a band, and played violin and piano.

She had also worked both at the Sidney Blumenthal textile mill, and later as a hairdresser.
