Man in serious condition after being run over

PAWTUCKET - A Central Falls man is in serious condition after being run over in a hit-and-run incident on Broadway in Pawtucket on Sunday. Police have identified the victim as Stanley Kogut, age 36, of 693 Pine St. in Central Falls. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with internal injuries.

The man who allegedly ran Kogut over is Mark Fowler, age 37, of 88 Hammond St. in Boston. He is being held by the Attleboro Police Department as a fugitive from justice. Once brought back to Rhode Island, he will be charged with duty to stop in accidents resulting in personal injury, according to a news release from the Pawtucket Police Department.

On Dec. 29, at approximately 3 a.m., officers were called to the area of Broadway and Tingley Street in response to an accident. Police arrived and found Kogut in the roadway. Witnesses told officers that they had seen a white vehicle headed in a southerly direction on Broadway with Kogut holding onto the passenger door. He then fell off of the vehicle and was run over. The vehicle, described as a white Chrysler Pacifica, then took off. Members of the Attleboro Police Department located the Pacifica a short time later. Fowler was then detained.

After an investigation it was revealed that a disturbance had taken place in Attleboro between Kogut, Fowler and a woman. It then spilled over into Pawtucket where the incident occurred just 500 feet from the Attleboro line.
