NORTH SMITHFIELD - As part of the planned investments accompanying the purchase of Landmark Medical Center and its sister facility, Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island in North Smithfield, Prime Health Services hopes to establish an acute care unit at RHRI. One floor of the building would dedicated to the 41-bed service, providing treatment for patients in need of care after incidents such as severe injury or episode of illness, or during recovery from surgery. Patients on the mend would generally stay for around three to four weeks.

The hospital was scheduled to submit a certificate of need application to the Rhode Island Department of Health by Friday, Jan. 11.
