McKee's education meeting is Wednesday

CUMBERLAND - Mayor Daniel McKee's forum on Cumberland's education future will feature a former school superintendent from a Massachusetts town that put its mayor on the School Committee.

He'll discuss a suggested change in what McKee calls the "governance model" that he says could be put before Cumberland voters as an option this November.

The school board make-up is one of four topics he's hoping to cover at a community meeting next week, Feb. 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the public library's community room.

In a letter in today's Breeze, McKee calls the meeting " an opportunity to work together to continue building a culture that embraces the importance of education in our town."

McKee has informally listed an agenda that would see the gathering look at:

* Efficiencies that could be derived through consolidation of services;

* Growing the importance of a community culture that embraces education as a priority;

* Synergies that could be added through the collaboration between town, school and community organizations who serve Cumberland youth and their families;

* A discussion of models that would align town and schools through change in governance.
