Woonsocket athletic director in coma after reffing accident

BURRILLVILLE – Woonsocket Athletic Director George Nasuti is in critical condition after falling while reffing a basketball game in Burrillville on Friday, Feb. 7.

According to Major Larry Guglietta, police were called to Burrillville Middle School on Bronco Highway around 6:45 p.m. with reports that the referee had fallen and was unconscious.

When officers arrived, Nasuti was bleeding and being cared for by nurses.

"He was conscious at the time and said he fell backwards and hit his head," said Guglietta.

Nasuti was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Harrisville Rescue.

"We've heard he's in grave condition now," Guglietta said.

Currently, Nasuti is in critical condition and is reported to be in a coma.

On a Facebook page, Prayers for George Nasuti, friends and community members have posted messages of support for the well-known coach and director.
