Home Run Heroes needs baseball gear

LINCOLN - Although the weather stubbornly says otherwise, baseball season is upon us once again, and the Home Run Heroes program is looking for donations of used baseball gear. The program, headed by Lincoln High School freshman Derek Degnan, collects gently used baseball gear and delivers it for distribution to children in less fortunate areas of the world.

The program is in conjunction with Roberto's Kids, named for former Major League great Roberto Clemente. Last fall, Home Run Heroes collected and delivered 700 pounds of gear to children who would otherwise have no equipment.

That effort was made possible with the help of LHS Principal Kevin McNamara, Deb, Danny and Steve McManus, Ken Enright and Ray Azar, as well as everyone who donated gear.

This year, Home Run Heroes will be accepting donations all season long. To donate, call 401-578-8318, and the merchandise will be picked up.
