Thunder soccer girls stay on a roll

CUMBERLAND - After struggling through session one in competitive soccer play at Wide World of Indoor Sports in North Smithfield and starting session two with a rusty 8-0 loss, Cumberland Thunder has found its stride and most recently recorded its third straight tie following two previous wins, earning a five-game undefeated streak.

Cornerstoned by solid keeper play by Riley Dion and paced by strong team defense led by Bethany Votta, Olivia Badeau and Paige Labbe, the Cumberland Thunder have woven a string of exciting wins or ties with final scores of 6-5, 3-2, 3-3, 1-1, and 3-3.

Netting one or more goals along the way has been Labbe, Madison Durkin, Ashley Puello, Maeve Byrne, as well as impressive scoring strikes by Badeau, Votta and Victoria Jakubiak.

"With the development of the player's individual soccer skills and teaching them to work those skills into a team environment, it has been great to see those skills and the team work come together over our recent stretch of games," said head coach Curtiss Grieve. "It has been a real team effort with all the girls contributing."
