Walsh to serve as city EMA director

WOONSOCKET - Timothy Walsh, deputy fire chief of the Woonsocket Fire Department, has been appointed to serve as the city's director of the Emergency Management Agency by Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt.

Walsh was promoted to the position of deputy fire chief in 1986, and before that he served as the city's hazardous materials officer. Before that time, he served as a deputy fire marshal for the state of Rhode Island NFPA.

He also served as the city's acting fire chief from September 2013 until February 2014.

"Deputy Chief Walsh's performance as the acting chief was exemplary as has been the performance of his work duties during his employment with the city," said Baldelli-Hunt. "The city is extremely fortunate to have highly skilled professionals such as Deputy Chief Walsh, to serve the city in this important administrative capacity."

Walsh has degrees from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, Bryant College and Providence College. Currently, he is a master's in public administration candidate at Southern Columbia University.

The EMA director position was last held by Chief Gary Lataille, who retired in September.
